Midvale-Lincoln talks about the referendum

My wife is on the email list for the Midvale-Lincoln PTA "executive board" (seven people present including the school principal) and she got the minutes of their March 8 meeting. There's an interesting mention of the upcoming referendum as it was discussed in this meeting:

• NEW Business
[Person 1] asked the Board to consider advocating on behalf of some or all of the 3 funding referenda likely to be scheduled in May. After some discussion, the Board agreed to accept from [Person 1] an informational summary and recommendation on the impact of the Maintenance and “Operating Expense” referenda, as well as the impact of possible boundary changes. At the April Board meeting, the Board will review and decide on what position to take, and how to communicate that position to Midvale Lincoln community members.

(Note: [Principal] subsequently informed the Board that the District will not allow us to send home a document advocating any particular position, to whit: “while PTAs can disseminate information via student Friday Folders, the information cannot contain endorsements of support one way or the other on the referenda and any candidates running for office.”)

Similarly, I can report that at the Midvale "book fair" and cowboy-themed student performance (don't ask) which was very well-attended by grades K-2 and their parents at Midvale last night (March 15), the two phys. ed. teachers organizing the performance took about five minutes to tell the crowd that a very important ballot measure would be coming up which could affect whether or not they could do special programs like this. They specifically said that if the measure didn't pass, our teachers would have to double the class size of the "specials" (art, phys. ed., library, etc.) and wouldn't have any time leftover to organize such special events. But they didn't ever say "go out and vote for/against the measure". Sadly, because of their crappy public address system, I don't think anyone really heard any of the details of what they were trying to say...
